Posted in: Featured, News

Washougal is located east of Vancouver, WA and north of the Columbian River. It was officially incorporated on December 4, 1908 and received its name from the Chinook Indian word meaning “Rushing Waters.” Washougal has a population of 12,270 and its current total property tax is at a low $14.22 per $1,000 assessed valuation. Many executive are finding their home in Washougal because of the easy access and short distance of I-205.

Washougal may be a small town but is full of many activities. You can attend the annual Farmer’s Market held every summer located in the Pendleton Woolen Mill parking lot. The Two River Heritage Museum has several displays of Native American artifacts, 1900’s memorabilia, books, furniture, musical instruments and family history records. The community still uses the Mount Pleasant Grange Hall which is the oldest grange hall in Washington.

Since 1980, Washougal has annually held the AMA Motocross Nationals because of its heavily forested foothills of the Cascade Mountains. There are two National Wildlife Refuges located at Franz Lake and Steigerwald Lake. You can go bird watching at Franz Lake to see the wintering tundra swans and the Steigerwald Lake is in progression to be opened to the public.
